Yello!

Lots of yellow and blue flying around today.
I'm linking up to Sunday Sketches and posting some pages from my sketchbook that I've been working on this sunny, spring weekend. The weather has been gorgeous here on our long island.

Moleskine sketchbook/Dr.PhMartin's watercolor/Micron pens/Sakura white gel pen
I had alot of trouble painting this. I thought it had to do with the paints but I think it was more so the paper in this sketch book! I love the size  of this book but I'm finding I not thrilled with the paper in this Moleskine:/ I was going to going to give up on this page but kept at it. I just find it didn't allow me to layer the paint well at all.  I'm going to go back to WinsorandNewton paint, it works better in this sketchbook.

Blue/yellow is such a great combo!
I painted this other page, above, and same deal, but I still like the outcome. The page with the flowers, on the left page, was better because I just drew with the paintbrush, rather than layer colors.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday
and enjoys every bit of this weekend.
Thanks for stopping by.
I really appreciate the visits and comments, alot!
Take care,

Glue it Tuesday on Sunday

I wanted to make my collage on Tuesday but just getting to it in the very early hours of this morning. Here is my contribution to Artysville's Glue-It Challenge. I'm also going to link up with Sunday Sketches to share what I have been working on this week (more below).

I love green, can you tell? :
I initially wanted to have the two pages flow together and
painted both the same color background,
but they are two distinct collages, to me, and that's perfect.

Green , though I love it so much, is a hard color to capture...

no matter how much I try to color correct the photos,
each image has it looking a different green:) I tried to tone down the photo
because in reality its not so garish.

Clean up is tough in the early morning hours.
Hell what am I saying?
Its tough no matter what time of day it is.

I couldn't find my glue sticks,
where they disappeared to, I have no idea.
So I mixed a little glue with water.

The book I used to collage in is from a journalling class I took a couple of years ago. Here is a look at some old pages, I think these are from Summer 2011:

We did alot of collaging in that class and I miss it! I'm on vacation starting Wednesday and I plan on getting together with a friend who loves to collage as well.

I also took a stab at creating some art using acrylics. I am very dedicated to watercolors and switching off always feels like sort of a big thing for me.

I keep buying these little canvases when I go to Blick and the last time I was there I had to literally say STOP.
And I promised not to buy more unless I do a damn painting. (I'm like to think that I am only a spendthrift when it comes to art supplies)... I went in without a plan so I wasn't expecting too much.
i had, had, HAD to cover that green blob LOL!!! haha.

I like how this turned out, this little piece (4"x4"), am pleased with how it looks. I'm glad I tried a little sgraffiti on the right side.

I started on another, larger (8"x 8") canvas board and primed it with some black  I'll work on that during my vacation too.

Thanks for reading through this far!
Have a lovely week!
Take care,
Fran T xo

Sunday Sketches and AEDMs

I had such a nice week off. I did zero! It was fantastic..
I spent the whole time drawing, painting and working on Etsy stuff.
Today was spent mostly working on my shop. [ I'll post more about that tomorrow or Tuesday.]

Here are some art journal pages I created this week. This one below was my final AEDM for the month. The Gadget page was made on the 29th and my amaryllis page was created on the 30th:

I posted this one a while back but got a chance to finish it up with watercolors this week.

I also decided today that I'd update my banner on my shop. Here are some sketches I made this afternoon , so it's technically, my Sunday Sketch!

Then here is the cleaned up version below:(Blogger gets funny after you put in a couple of photos, it doesn't allow me to up size this art...oh well!)

I wanted to have a banner that was made with my own handlettering rather than a computer generated font. Mostly because I do so much of it. I'm happy with how it turned out but I'm sure I'll change it in the future.

I am still learning about working on  and keeping an Etsy shop.  I have to commend each and every person who maintains a presence there. It's such hard work! I knew it would be that is probably why I procrastinated so long... I am really trying to attack this and tried to upload as much as I can. I felt for a long time that I had to wait for the "right" time , blah, blah...but it's never the perfect time to do almost anything so who was I trying to fool? LOL I have alot more to do but I feel like I'm finally getting started. I have to learn how to make a treasury. I also have to remember to get active on that site at least once a day. I am open to any and all suggestions/comments:)

Speaking of Etsy sites....Please check out Cameron's blog, she is hosting a contest and giving away a  a 50% OFF Coupon Code to use on any ONE item in her shop
All you need to do is leave a comment:)

Please remember to stop by Blue Chair Diary's blog and have a look at all those participating in Sunday Sketches, I promise you you'll be glad you did!

Have a good week!

Sunday Sketches 10/28/12-Weapons to fight the dark.

Okay, so we have this raging, torrential storm on its way and expected to hit the NY/NJ area. It's supposed to spin in a counter-clockwise direction and come from our southeast.

So, of course, my husband switches
over to Survivor Mode.

Check out Sunday Sketches and catch up on the other artists that did some creating today too!
Oh boy....now don't get me wrong, I don't take these things lightly
but he is crazy serious, dear boy. He's been up since the crack of dawn, scheming and working and battening down the hatches,
while my son and I dream away in our beds til mid-morning.
C knows he is a complete target to our snickery and giggles,
while he lines up his flashlights and
counts his batteries. One part of me laughs and teases
about his behavior but there is the other part of
my brain that knows that I'm going to thank
my lucky stars that many hurricanes ago
I said "I do" to this nut.

And when I hold a fully lit flashlight for five days
straight he'll be smiling wide :))

Don't forget to visit this link to view
some other Sunday Sketchers work:)

Take care and be careful this week,
whether or not you are in the path of a this storm.

Sunday Sketch 10/21/12

Another illustration lamenting the chores of the home....

my husband usually washes and

irons his own things [I know its great]

SUNDAY SKETCH - Check out the others at BlueChairDiary

Tonight he made a trade with my 12 year old (?!?!)
that if he walked the dog for the twelve-year old,
the boy would iron his shirts and pants.
Imagine how that one turned out....

Saturday, I knuckled down and made the book

I had the urge to make. I ended up using a different

YouTube tutorial and went for coptic stitching.

It took me a long time because I had to

re-do the stitching twice but I love how it came out:)

Makes me just want to make more.

Have a GREAT and creative week everyone!

Take care,

Sunday Sketch 9/16/12

I can't believe we're at Sunday again. These weekends fly right by!

I am still working on my 'pickings' from the neighborhood.
This Sunday Sketch is a similar in style to Friday's post.

The next one I plan to work on is waiting in the water glass on the kitchen window sill.

Quiet and easy-going weekend, thank goodness. Nothing exciting, perfection.

Tomorrow and Wednesday the boy is off,
LI public schools are closed for Rosh Hashanah.
And next week they are off again for Yom Kimpur.
So many days off, he should be glad we didn't enroll him in Catholic school!

Hope everyone has a wonderful week!
XO

Sunday Sketches for 9/9/12

I worked on this post more than once, my scanner was messing up and I was afraid to miss the cut off time for Sunday sketches
I got it working and here is the post as I intended:

I am thoroughly enjoying the bouquet I received.
I'm getting so much enjoyment out of it!
