I'm struggling with the fact that I am unable to find a certain style. Why do I feel as if my work should look more or less similar? I think its because I feel like if someone were to look at my work they should know right away that its mine. But when it comes to creating, I've got multiple personalities! I wonder if anyone else feels this way . I am also wondering if anyone feels the opposite? If they only create in one particular style, do they wish they were able to create other styles? hmmm. Its a slow Saturday because I was up late, manic, cleaning my kitchen. That's me:) all or nothin' LOL! Have a great day!

I used to struggle with this idea, too but then I realized that no matter what I create, it's my style because I made it! Plus I get bored too easily if I always do the same thing over and over. I like variety.
PS - I'm playing with watercolors this weekend, too.
I've also struggled with this same issue and have fretted over finding my own style. But like Janet, I've also come to realize that I already have my own style whether I recognize it or not. Since I enjoy experimenting with different medium, the results are bound to look different. Plus, I also hope that somewhere along the line I'm growing and improving and my art is evolving as well.
One of the reasons why I enjoy visiting your blog is that I never know what I'm going to find here on any given day. I'll admit that I sometimes stop visiting blogs where every piece of art looks just like the last.
I think you're a multi-talented artist and I love coming here to see what you've been up to. Just keep creating and forget about the rest! :)
I tend to jump all over the place, terms of materials, projects, and style. As long as I like what I'm producing I tend not to worry about it...
All of the pieces you have here are wonderful (as always)!! And, though different, are still uniquely you :-)

I think this is a common artists concern, I certainly feel it and then when I make something that is similar to another project I think the opposite and worry that people will be bored looking at my work. But the thing that I have learnt is that it is impossible not to progress and change as an artist anyway - just you try and stay still, it doesn't happen! Look at Monet, we think of him as an atmospheric landscape artist but he did some fabulous realistic paintings of his wife in the french classical style that was taught. I think we just need to ignore this little niggle, along with the ones that go 'this is not good enough' or 'you're rubbish at that!' & just get on with doing it. I think wonderful things happen when you forget the rest & you're a fabulous artist so I hope you do and just allow yourself to be *awesome*!!!!
Jenni- thank you for your comments! Honestly, I was a bit sheepish after I hit 'publish'. You know 'aw, poor me' but I am so glad I did because I got such wonderful advice from everyone so far! And everyone's runs along the same thread of what you said about not staying still. amazing feedback and I'm so thankful for it all!
I don't know of any artist who hasn't struggled with this at one time or another.
Fran, your work is amazing - i care less about your style and more about the fact that i am never disappointed whenever i visit your blog. You are a multi-talented, mixed media artist, and whatever you're in the mood for on any particular day is fine by me.
I know that whatever i am seeing on your blog is coming from the heart, so it's already "your" style. :-)

Why do you have to have one.... I do my detailed botanicals and then my loose mixed media, then have collages that are very heavy on paint and texture.... I kind of like being able to move between them... I used to get pretty stressed, even though as a teacher I would tell others not to worry, but it all sorts itself.... I don't think you will ever lose your lovely sense of line and that that will always shine through.... I love what you do and say just keep having fun....I certainly enjoy visiting...xx

I'd say have fun and explore! You're very talented, especially if you are able to create beautiful artwork in a variety of mediums. I bet after time they will all come together in some way.
