Yello!

Lots of yellow and blue flying around today.
I'm linking up to Sunday Sketches and posting some pages from my sketchbook that I've been working on this sunny, spring weekend. The weather has been gorgeous here on our long island.

Moleskine sketchbook/Dr.PhMartin's watercolor/Micron pens/Sakura white gel pen
I had alot of trouble painting this. I thought it had to do with the paints but I think it was more so the paper in this sketch book! I love the size  of this book but I'm finding I not thrilled with the paper in this Moleskine:/ I was going to going to give up on this page but kept at it. I just find it didn't allow me to layer the paint well at all.  I'm going to go back to WinsorandNewton paint, it works better in this sketchbook.

Blue/yellow is such a great combo!
I painted this other page, above, and same deal, but I still like the outcome. The page with the flowers, on the left page, was better because I just drew with the paintbrush, rather than layer colors.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday
and enjoys every bit of this weekend.
Thanks for stopping by.
I really appreciate the visits and comments, alot!
Take care,
Fran T xo

Sunday Sketches 10/14/12

Mugs!  :)
I was so tempted to put images on these mugs/cups

 but I resisted.

I wanted to keep the focus on the shapes.

I think I may try another with the mugs in their actual colors and graphics.

 We'll see. No pressure:)

My son and I took our dog (Einstein), packed up the car and

visited with my sister's family and my parents today.

It was an interesting visit...

I was raised in a family with four kids

and it's funny I forget about the whole sibling situation and the issues involved.

My neice and nephew were in rare form and it sort of made me

nostaglic for the times my brothers, sister and I would argue and bicker.

But at the same time I was quietly thankful I don't have to referee that daily.

Of course, my son is an only child...

its the way things worked out and life is good.

It's sort of funny watching my son's expressions and

how he quietly observes their arguments.

And of course, in the car on the way home,

he wants to talk about me and my siblings.

What did we fight about? Did you get really mad?

It was a fun conversation, me driving along with

him in the back, with Einstein, laughing and laughing.

I love that kid :)

Have a wonderful week and be well!

Got the time?

While I was creating this journal entry I was listening to a

movie my son and husband were watching.

I know that every time I look at this page for the next week or so,

at least, I'll be thinking of 'Poltergeist'.

It's funny how our minds work while we're creating.

I know for sure drawing and painting are almost a meditation for me,

that is of course if there isn't a movie on in the next room!

When I work its usually in silence and I like that the best...

but I do play some music once in a while.

End of August

Oh my, where has this summer gone! Tomorrow is the last day of August. I'm off to the ocean tomorrow and plan to do some painting while I'm at the beach. We'll see how that turns out, LOL. I've been very busy the past few weeks but getting some artwork in here and there.  I painted a few things while on my vacation this week.

this is an abstract that I am still working on , putting the finishing touches.

I got this great insect book out of the library and having some fun making up my
own journal pages based on the information and the illustrations.

Random nonsense in blue
I have been procrastinating on posting...its been about 3 weeks :(. The last few times I've posted it's taken me a long time to upload my photos etc. I guess I need to post more often so that there are less images to post, huh? I'll get back on track soon, I promise and there be alot less time between posts.

We celebrated an anniversary and my husband sent me an amazing and gorgeous bouquet. One of the best ever! Two days after I got it I had left for a few days to my parents and I was afraid the bouquet would completely wilt while I was away but its still going strong!

I painted this one today, a week later:

OK I was going to post more but this blogger is really annoying me now!
I hope to catch up on everyone's blogs this weekend and looking forward to browsing and catching up on everyone's posts.
Take care and happy end-of- summer!
Have a safe holiday weekend,

Sunday Sunday

I've posted more ICADs on Flickr and I've got them below.

Leafy goodness
Was looking for inspiration and I asked my mom to give me a single word so I could illustrate it. This is her contribution.

Cherry tomatoes from my dad's garden

Random Flora
After a month and a half, I am really growing to love this small area of art to work in. I'm mostly using my colored Micron pens. I know that I wanted to use my acrylics more but the page is so small and flimsy. I've got all those acrylic paints and some small canvases, but I just don't have the time or the 'oomph!' to want to get set up and do it. Those darn micron pens make it so easy to just grab and doodle/draw/create. It's all good:)
happy Sunday

ICAD #? who's counting

I posted last night because I thought I had to go updstate today but it ended up I didn't have to ake the trip. So I'm having more time than I thought I would today. yay!
As for the ICAD, I have stopped keeping track. I'm so far behind its pointless...LOL. But I just love this challenge and can't stop:)
I wanted to try out a card that is related to another challeng and that would be Inspiration Avenue's teapot challenge. I am a HUGE coffee drinker but do drink tea occasionally. I like the idea of all the 'accessories' that involve tea, the pots, the spoons, the tea balls, the cozies, etc etc. I also like the different shapes of the pots and cups. And they are so fun to draw.
The index card I made shows pot and cup shapes  I saw on Pinterest.
Damn that Pinterest is like a vortex, its so hard to get out of there!
Thank goodness its cooler today but we've still managed to keep ourselves holed up today since we've been doing that for the past 4-5 days now, tomorrow I'll get myself out of the house:)
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

March Blues

The color challenge this month is the color blue! And boy, was that a tough one for me! On top of the color challenge I broken open the Dr. Ph Martin Watercolor set that my mother-in-law gave me for Christmas.

Kitchen Blues

detail

Using this new set was a bit different but alot of fun. I like this kitchen painting I made but after working on this for a time I realized the blue is supposed to represent something tranquil. So I painted 'Canal'. I enjoyed the exercis of doing this one:)
This is the painting I submitted for the challenge:) Its an abstraction called 'Canal'

A bit messy but I'm experimenting.

This month has been hectic and been a little hard to get some time to stop and do some painting. I can usually manage to squeeze it in but we've go so much happening and plus work...Looking forward to a calm April!
Take care! Tomorrow is Friday- yippee!
