Sunday Sketch 9/23/12

This weeks Sunday sketch is the last of my rose pickings in the neighborhood.

 

There are barely any roses about anymore...

 aside from me picking them! 

 

The Montauk daisies aren't blooming yet, but

I can't wait till they pop out:)

 

 

I'm going to have to start looking out for some marigolds

or mums to paint in the mean time.

 

 I journalled about a wonderful mediation group I went to this morning with a friend.
It was such a pleasure and felt like I got to clear my mind and shake out the cobwebs.

Plus it was just an amazingly beautiful day, the sky was the brightest blue!

 I got some artwork in this past week,
I was able to complete this mermaid illustration for a swap.

Thankfully I was able to scan that and have a good copy to keep. I have been having such trouble with my scanner:( I like how the way she holds her conch shell turned out to look like she is on a cellphone.

 

I remembered this time to take photos at different stages.  I liked how the flowers from the sketch book overlapped so I thought I would do the same with a patch of seaweed and bubbles.

Then I traced the image onto the watercolor paper by covering the

back of the sketch with graphite and then tracing over the front.

I know... I'm so hi tech ;)

 

 

 

 

 

I am happy with the quote and was lucky to find a good one.

There aren't that many out there related to mermaids...

Early Sunday morning

I'm posting this for Sunday Sketches. I worked on this tonight and technically ran thru to Sunday a.m.:) Big day tomorrow (Sunday) and little time for art. I've been doing ICADs alot lately so I'm not thinking big and I typically don't paint large at all. I did this 'kind of' large and you can see in the photo below its not too huge but when you work 4x6 anything more is pretty big...LOL! I'll admit I am a thief. Our neighborhood has some awesome flowers and bushes so I 'm snapping off specimens here and there while I am walking the dog at night. I painted this one pretty quickly and I can see now that I overworked the blue glass. I like the way it looked when I first started but at the time I thought it was too plain.

I also left the tabletop white and there was practically no shadow so I added one but I think I should have used paynes gray rather than the purple. It looked better when it was wet:) Oh well, that's how we learn. Another day another painting.

I was also working on this crazy abstraction.

 I am completely obsessed with just making a particular pattern I put it on everything, geesh.

I know. I know. its nuts. But I have to do it! I'm compelled. I'm not in love with the shapes but whatever. 

The whole time I worked on the green sections I was listening to the very cool Matthieu Ricard, a Buddhist monk on TED. I thought he was great. I think I have a crush on him and his serenity... Check it out if you have time. Its all about meditation and the mind and happiness. That is exactly what it feels like I am doing when I do 'my' little circular patterns, I zone out. Its very meditative.

I also started this tonight earlier but got bored, I will got back to it, I think. The boys were watching Gattica and the movie got to be more interesting than the painting.

Tomorrow is looking to be a 100 degrees.

Sunday Sketch and then some

I am happy to know that there is a spot in this blogworld for Sunday Sketches:)

I discovered this while checking in on a wonderful blog by Tracy !

This is something I can manage, LOL...let's hope. I struggled with the last challenge

 (ummm, that's why they call it a challenge, Frannie...)

  I also have a few others that I did this weekend during my travels to the house up north as well as out east to the parents.

 BUT before I do that I have to share my mom's sketches as well. She is such a good artist and probably the main reason why I am an artist.

 Mom is so creative and has set up a wonderful working area in a spare room (my old bedroom!) in the house. She paints, sketches, does origami, crafts...you name it.  She can whip anything up!



I used my favorite makers - microns- for this doodle...
Its a wonderful Buddha quote! Everyone does deserve it!

Days #9 (a lesson learned) and #10 - 29 Faces

My lesson with rushing.

I had this vision of a girl amongst roses....

I had such a good time creating her.

Boy, I am glad I took these photos right before I finished. Impatiently,

 I shut my sketch book (CLASSIC Fran) and pretty much ruined her

face. I couldn't just wait for her to dry:( I have not a bit of patience and

'had' to put all my things away so that I don't leave them hanging about..

The original smile, which came easy with just a stroke,  but I felt it fit her just fine.

Day 10's face was created entirely from my homemade stamp colleation. This gal looks like a clown AND  she was so hard to create. I almost started carving more stamps go make it easier but I wanted to challenge myself to see what I could come up with based on what i had;)

wishes from friends and family throughout the day! My son and husband took me to a wonderful Japanese restaurant and surprised me with delightful and thoughtful gifts.

 The food was terrific and we had a great time, as WeThree <3 always do.
